Memo of Toronto newcomer strategy 2013

♣Vision
All newcomers reach their full potential to thrive and contribute to their local neighborhood , community and city, ensuring Toronto's continued success and prosperity 😉

♣Toronto :Over half of its residents born outside Canada .
Total 2.5million
800,000 older immigrants
460,000 recent immigrants
Means many ppl settled down ?

♣Newcomers are healthier than Canadian born residents when they first arrive to Canada. However newcomers experiences a decline in their health due to stress associated with migration, settlement and adaptation.
One way to solve this issue is the collaboration between health and settlement sectors.

♣Toronto receives over 75000 immigrants every year !many with high levels of education and years of work experience.
Many newcomers hold PhDs , Master degrees and professional certifications from other countries😎. However, differing graduation requirements and expectations in professional fields prevents many qualified newcomers from working in their occupations.
😥

♣Toronto is home to immigrants from over 188 countries. The top languages spoke in Toronto are Mandarin , Cantonese , Italian , Spanish, Tagalog and Tamil, Urdu ,Korean etc.
Hmm not Hindi !
South Indian na.
One of my friend told me that Punjaabee likes to live in Canada but their language is not shown in the 2011 census.

♣More cultural integration is required. Developing a sense of community is an important part of feeling at home.
Increased opportunities for volunteer work , skill development classes , psychical and social activities help ppl from canadian and other cultures come together ,learn from each other and develop new friendships.
However priorities for newcomers include for work , looking after children and trying to adjust, leaving little time to socialise and meet new ppl...😔
I thought newcomers expect to feel diversity. Why do they come ? To learn and get better opportunity after coming back to their home country ?
